COME OUT OF THE CLOSET!!!

It seems to me that we have more sports fans here on xanga than we care to admit. Alot of them are closet sports fans who only pretend that they don’t give two craps about what happens on a football field. Why are they closeted? Because alot of times, anyone who brings up sports around here is brutally discriminated against.

I can tell you from experience that it is not fun to be discriminated against because of my sportsual orientation (that is a term I just made up). I remember one or two times I was in the BFN chatroom with about 20 xangans. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. Then I make one sports related comment to maybe Jon or Matt. People disappear from the room faster than money from a 401K account. It makes me feel like some kind of freak!

Well I’ve got news for you xanga, I am not a freak (At least not because I love sports)! Neither are the rest of my fellow sports lovers. It’s time we banded together and said enough is enough. Amongst all the complaining, and bible thumping, and gay debating, and whining about sucking at relationships, there is a place for us here! There is no need for us to cower in fear at all the estrogen flying around. Stand with me and proudly say…

…I LOVE SPORTS, AND I AM NO LONGER GOING TO BE AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT IT ON XANGA!!!

There. Didn’t that feel good?

IF YOU ARE A SPORTS FAN LET ME KNOW WITH A COMMENT. I AM STARTING A SPORTS SITE HERE ON XANGA THAT (HOPEFULLY) WILL ACTUALLY LAST. I CAN’T DO THIS ALONE THOUGH, SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO HELP.

Please rec if it’s not too much trouble. Thanks.

  1. While I am currently unable to be one of the writers for said site, I would love to see something like this happen. Reason number 4637 why I read you with some regularity.

  2. I’ve already sent you a msg replying to your mass msg about this. But hey, I’ll do it here too.I like sports but don’t write or debate about them. So, I’d like to see this entire thing take root and sprout, but I can’t really add much for it.

  3. Im most certainly a sports fan.  Hubby and I have tickets to the Flyers game tonight.  I had every intention of posting about it tomorrow… way to steal my thunder!  I hope you are able to get that sports site together and make it last!@chaospet – thats because hockey is the best sport out there!!

  4. While I was in college (7 years) I could talk college sports like an ESPN announcer.  Loved it!  Basketball, football, baseball, you name it, and I knew my stuff.  It was exciting.  Then life moved forward as it does and other excitment came along, and there isn’t time for everything and college sports faded from my life.  (Didn’t fade from my husband’s though.  Imagine that.)  Hopefully that passion reignites one day when life slows down.  Great post.

  5. I grew up in a hockey family, so I enjoy hockey.  And some football.  The Packers make me smile.  ♥

  6. definitely a sports fan. March Madness was awesome.  Now on to NBA. Who do you think will take it? Football season is just around the corner, who are you going for? I’ll always be a cards fan. I love me some Olympics 🙂

  7. I am a huge hockey fan.  Doesn’t help I am from Michigan though – land of Detroit Red Wings baby!!I dislike all other sports.  Watching, anyways.. I don’t mind playing them for some side fun..But hockey.  Eat, sleep, breath..

  8. I love football. I get soooo excited when it gets close to August….I’m like a kid in a candy store, lol.Edit…And actually, I like hockey too. I don’t watch it as much, but I have been to 2 Wild games. Go me!

  9. I always blog about sports.  Anyone that reads my blog knows that we are completely hockey crazy in our house(we practically live at the rink I think), then baseball, football, and finally basketball. GO WINGS!!

  10. i love sports! im definitely a closet sports fan sometimes, until someone brings them up.good luck with the sports site, that would definitely be a plus to xanga![peace]

  11. the thing is, to everyone who says they hate sports or don’t want to see sports blogs on xanga, it’s actually a huge detriment to xanga that they are not here. sincerely, the last guy who got featured for writing a sports post. LAST YEAR

  12. i know this is gay, but sports ruin everything. I get out there and do some stuff and am forced other times to watch the games but a whole site dedicated to sports… don’t do it, it’s kind of like the religious site. . . it is tedious to discuss. hah sorry, but on a brighter note, good luck!

  13. My name is gwacemom and I am a total sports fan. I love football and baseball and am not afraid to admit that I know stats as well as hubby does. Yep, that felt good. LOL

  14. With you. No puss- you are not getting any pathetic sports. Soccer isn’t a sport. Nor is fishing, just to be clear. 100% with you. I even wrote a little blog to boost your ego. Just a little.

  15. I’m a big fan of Manchester United,, but I never do serious sports, nor watching any sports outside football (or like you said: soccahhh…) or give a damn about how to play football actually. Plus, real boys that do sports always disgust me. you know how they are; walking around like they’ve got the sexiest body on the earth, speaking about and selecting (gahh…) woman without realize that OMFG they have no right to do so, etc. The only thing I care in sport is Christiano Ronaldo. Does that make me have a sportsual orientation???

  16. LOL it’s not an estrogen issue. I love sports too! Baseball at least. I’m a huge White Sox fan! And I love playing different sports, so I think you are right there is an audience for it. So I love your idea.

  17. Why would sports fans be discriminated against? I’m not that sporty myself, but I wouldn’t want to deprive other people to talk about it just because I’m not a sports person. ^_^

  18. Daniel-san, you know how much I like sports. And, despite my team’s absolutely shitty bullpen, I’d just like to throw some numbers at you.Mike Hampton is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA and a 1:3 walk to strike out ratio. And that’s with a shitty first game. Two quality starts and he shows none of the signs of fatigue that he did with the Braves. He’s going to be fine.FOOL!

  19. @iStephanieMarie – lol. Wii Sports is pretty fun.@Tei_Hakuto – You are a good person. Others are not so tolerant. @theblackspiderman – Yeah I know this man. But its outside of xanga right? So this site could maybe plug your outside site sometimes. We need to talk dude.@maniacsicko – We will have a European correspondant or two.@another_rebel_without_a_cause – Mike Hampton is exactly four starts away from an injury. I can’t wait to rub this in your face.@October_Lies – Just look out for an invite soon.@DanzInRealLife – that would be cool. We have to see how this goes first.@jb132 – @flowerspushthrudirt – We have a good number of hockey fans so far.

  20. @vanedave – Oh yeah. I went crazy with it a few years ago on my Xanga. I am a huge Mavs fan! (They have made me uber-fall in love with basketball.) I enjoy other sports, but nothing will ever trump basketball.
