No nerds were harmed

GAME, SET, MATCH!!!

Well my friends it’s all over. The votes have been cast and tallied. Time to announce your Xanga Debate Tournament winner…

…right after this commercial break. (I learned from Hell’s Kitchen.)

We started out with 16 eager nerds contestants. Each was given a seeding and was stripped of their name for the next three weeks. I guess I can give them their names back now (In order by seed number).

We had a lot of close calls and some huge upsets. There was never a shortage of drama in this battle of the geeks minds. In the end our final four consisted of all four top seeds except for the top overall seed himself. TheBigshow was knocked off by the underdog 9 seed (EarthsAzureLight) before he could get there. The underdog then proved it was no fluke by defeating the 4 seed to get to the finals. In the 2/3 seed semifinal matchup, which turned out to be the 2/6 matchup, ContemporaryInsanity just barely edged out Saintvi by a single vote. With ContemporaryInsanity clearing the way for CallmeQuell, the stage was set for the finals;

EarthsAzureLight  v. CallMeQuell .

Congratulations to both contestants on an excellent final and an excellent tournament run. After tallying all the votes from our judges and readers, the first ever Xanga Debate Tournament winner is….

CallmeQuell!!!

I caught up with Quell after the tournament to ask her if she had any words after this thrilling victory.

“Um. I have no idea. Victory speeches are so dickish. Hmm. Wow. I am blown away. Ha. I guess just say…thanks? I hope this allows Xanga to embark on some actually productive and meaningful discourses about issues involving our great site. Annoying as meta-blogging is, I must admit looking at both sides of these more mechanical sort of points has always fascinated me.

Also, thanks to you [Dave] for putting up with my late responses and wordiness. Must have been annoying, but you ran this really well. Oh, and of course thanks to all my opponents. I thought I was going to lose nearly every time, they were all so good, and well-done.”

Also I would like to add thank you to my co-hosts and judges. You know who you are. I am burnt out on links right now.

***Now that Quell has won she will be helping me take on TheTheologiansCafe and SecretNeverTold in a special bonus debate. Details will be forthcoming. I’ll leave you with a look at the completed brackets.
